A Night at the Races

Following the success of previous race nights
5th Sutton Scout Group are running a Race Night At
Headquarters, Westmead Road
On the 14th November
Doors open at 7.30
Stick this date in your diary now!!!!!
Fun night with prizes.
Food will be provided.
Bring your own liquid refreshments.
Admission: Adults £4 Children £2

This is a fun night with the jockeys being the children, on specially constructed "horses"
As the giant die is rolled, the jockeys gallop forward the relevant number of spaces, while the adult can place fun wagers, through the "bookmakers"

A fun evening for the family, not to be missed!

IT badge for all Sections

I have had a few enquiries about what is required for the IT badge.

I have checked out the following link:
http://www.itbadge.org.uk/
which is safe to allow your child onto. It will guide him/her through the various stages required.

On Stage One:
A certificate can be printed out at the end, after the Beaver works his/her way through the tasks.
If the parent can sign off tasks 1 and 5, and the Beaver brings it in (with the poster and picture from task 3 and 4) then I am happy that they have satisfied all requirements, and they will have earned their IT badge.

Note for cubs/scouts/parents: as this is a “staged” badge, cubs and scouts details are available from the same page with the same criteria

Chessington World of Adventure Fun Day

As mentioned last 1/2 term, the Beavers have expressed an interest in having a Fun-Day at Chessington.
I am happy to organise this but need to find out (pretty soon) which dates are preferable to everyone.
The sooner I get numbers, the sooner I can try to book a group discount, (maximum price per child should be £16 entry), and organise the number of helpers required.

Dates possible are the week after family camp, or the week after that.
i.e. Sat 4th July, Sun 5th July, Sat 11th July, Sun 12th July.

Please let Eddie (Badger) know at the next meeting or email on eddiejdriver@gmail.com

1. Name of child
2. Like to attend (or not)
3. Dates s/he could/couldn't do
4. Do you already possess/will possess a Merlin/Chessington pass (that will keep costs even lower for you!) (young adventurer annual passes(12 month entry for under 12s) are £50
5. Can you assist with transport for other children there or back

Thanks, Eddie (Badger)

Beavers Sports Day

We desperately need Sainsbury's and Tesco Vouchers - the schools get thousands, but because we only have about 100 children in all, we struggle to get the minimum amount to order equipment. Donate to us - directly help your children.

Well done all the helpers that re-decorated the Scout hall. You did a fantastic job!
The newsletter is being put together at the moment and will be available with lots of news and information very soon. Look out for your copy or check 5thsuttonnewsletters.blogspot.com

Finally the position of Group Scout Leader (GSL) is still vacant. We desperately need a volunteer who is willing to take this important role on. Please, please consider helping the scouts in a vital but rewarding way.

Cubs cancelled tonight.....................

I knocked this important post down with the Beaver notes so please note:

Snowy Weather

Cubs is cancelled on Tuesday 3rd February.

Beaver note home Thurs 5th Feb

Dear Parents
We need to replenish our material box and would like to ask if you could donate anything that you have that could be used for some of our craft activities. We are looking for items such as ribbon, wool and material that can be used to decorate models, etc that we make. Please do not donate bags of clothing as we are limited on space but if you have anything like a shiny top, perhaps an old curtain, scarves or anything that you can cut into storable sized pieces we would be grateful.
Thanks Michelle

Work Weekend

WORK WEEKEND 7TH AND 8TH FEB

This is short notice but don’t be alarmed, we only need your time for anything from half an hour up to whatever time you can spare over these two days. We started painting this hall late last year but it is obviously unfinished and we have a colour to go over the white undercoat. With help we think we can finish what we have started this weekend but unfortunately it is only ever the Leaders and our helpers that ever turn up which is why things take so long. Just a few extra parents will greatly cut down our workload. We all have families so we too have to find time to do this but we feel that this hall needs a good makeover for the benefit of the children. Don’t be fooled into thinking someone else will volunteer because it doesn’t happen. It isn’t hard work and can actually be quite fun. A good chance to get to know us outside of our formal meetings and meet the other leaders in this group. Even if you only want to make cups of tea or coffee that is still another pair of hands. There should be someone at the hall on both days from 9.30am but just turn up whenever you can spare the time.

Thanks
Michelle

Snowy Weather

Due to the unusual amount of snow
Cubs is cancelled on Tuesday 3rd February.
Hopefully everything will back to normal for beavers & scouts.
