ELECTIONS 6th May

PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE NO BEAVERS MEETING NEXT THURSDAY
(6TH MAY)

THE HALL IS BEING USED FOR THE ELECTIONS!

Utility Trousers

Scouting is a uniformed organisation.

To bring us in-line with all the other Units we will now all be required (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Leaders) to wear the CORRECT uniform trousers/shorts or skirt with our uniform top.

For a number of years, we at 5th Sutton have only concentrated on the upper half of the uniform, but there has now been a request for us to “toe-the line”

Scout Activity Trousers

The cargo style activity trousers are made from brushed poly cotton and are navy in colour. The trousers have double knees and a weather resistant finish. The trousers are fitted with 2 front pockets, 2 stud fastening rear pockets and a thigh pocket. They have a zip fly, belt loops and a metal D ring.

These can be purchased from any scout shop, on-line or from a number of other “outdoor retail shops” such as Cladishes in Wallington.

Vanessa (Raksha) from the cubs is kindly going to try and borrow some trousers from the scout shop, for size fittings in the next few weeks, to try and make the transition period easier for us all.

Vanessa will be able to take orders, and we will hopefully be able to then get a group discount for the bulk orders.

If you would prefer to get your own, then please feel free to arrange this at the earliest opportunity.

Further details from your section leaders

We will parade through Sutton, and return to the park for a brief service after the march.A collection in aid of Royal Marsden Hospital Wolfson Children’s and adolescent Unit, Sutton will be taken before the service whilst Groups are taking their places and buckets will be made available for groups.

In 'Scouting for Boys', Baden-Powell referred to the
Knights of the Round Table in the Arthurian Legend
and to St. George who was their Patron Saint. He
then went on:

"He is also the Patron Saint of Scouts everywhere.
Therefore all Scouts should know his story. St.
George was typical of what a Scout should be.
"When he was faced by a difficulty or danger,
however great it appeared, even in the shape of a
dragon - he did not avoid it or fear it but went at it
with all the power he could ... That is exactly the
way a Scout should face a difficulty or danger no
matter how great or how terrifying it may appear.
He should go at it boldly and confidently, using
every power that he can to try and overcome it, and
the probability is that he will succeed.
"St. George's Day is April 23, and on that day,
Scouts remind themselves of their Promise and
Scout Law. Not that a Scout ever forgets either but,
on St. George's Day, he makes a special point of
thinking about them. Remember this when April 23
comes round again".

So, the Sunday nearest to St. George's Day has
become an annual occasion for United Kingdom
Scouts to hold ceremonies when they reaffirm their
Promise and acknowledge the Scout Law in a
national act of dedication.
